Leaving aside whether it’s right or wrong, the current number of accounts being banned from social media platforms illustrates an important marketing point; you should never rely on a single source of exposure.
Most people don’t read the terms and conditions when signing up for social media accounts, and often they don’t consider the implications to their own business if that account suddenly stopped working. It happens.
Sometimes it’s because people or businesses are removed from platforms for breaching the decency terms. Other times it’s because their use on the platform resembles bot behaviour (whether a bot is actually used…
Things totally suck right now. Let’s not beat around the bush. The world is in various stages of lockdown, but for those of you who are still seeing other humans, either in person or online, throw on a smile.
As Miranda Lambert’s Mama would apparently say, “Don’t matter how you feel it only matters how you look.”
On a serious note, it actually does matter how you feel, so if you’re sinking towards a dangerous state, pretending to be okay when you’re really not isn’t the answer. …
If any other country had restricted the rights of its citizens the way Melbourne has, we’d be preparing a human rights mission.
We’ve just entered our 11th week of stage 4 lockdown. Stage 4 lockdown here is pretty tough, one of the harshest in the world, and it’s destroying our city.
Keep in mind that this has gone on for 10 weeks in this, our second wave. We were locked down for about 9 weeks from March during the first wave too.
There are about 5.5 million people in Melbourne and today (12 October 2020) we had 15 new cases…
I’m one of those business owners who likes to do everything myself. I build my own websites so I have control over what’s going on, but recently I decided to try and find a reliable developer for things beyond my capabilities.
My marketing business is new, and rapidly expanding, so pretty soon I won’t have time to do everything myself. …
The world is in chaos right now, and while none of us know what’s going to happen, there’s no need to waste money on inappropriate advertising.
Many events and conferences have been cancelled, yet I’ve still seen them advertised on social media. It takes just a few seconds to switch off these promotions, even if they’ve been scheduled to finish later, and even if you’ve still got a budget to spend.
Turn off ads for events that aren’t going to happen!
There’s a good chance people are going to spend more time on social media in the coming weeks. While…
I go to the same cafe every day. I spend at least $40 a week on coffee there and my bank statement records at least 40 transactions a month at the same place. I like it there. I know the names of the staff and they know my order.
I usually sit in the same seat, and I know what tables to avoid so I don’t end up with the sun in my eyes at 10:35am. I’m a creature of habit and I’ve accepted that. …
Sometimes I take for granted how people, or more specifically, audiences are categorized online.
In marketing, I know that I can push content to women between the ages of 30 and 40 who are interested in health and fitness. In fact, I’m in that category and love seeing ads that relate to me.
I don’t mind being targeted, categorized or tagged. It saves me time. I appreciate it when my supermarket sends me an email telling me my favorite brand of deodorant is on sale, or when there’s a multi-buy deal on mineral water. That stuff matters to me.
They…
As marketers or fame-seekers, viral videos or memes might be what we strive for, but even if that elusive trend is cracked, there’s no guarantee of business results. Social media is a powerful place for marketing, but repeated exposure and slowly embedding your brand into the minds of users will usually generate better results.
Think about the trends that took off over the last few years. The #bottlecapchallenge, where users tried to kick a bottle cap off in a single smooth motion, was apparently started by Taekwondo fighter Farabi Davletchin. …
A few years ago I was commissioned by a science publication to write an article about my experience with cryotherapy, something I genuinely love and believe in. One Negative Nancy in the comments accused me of content marketing — as if it is actually something to be accused of.
It was an interesting point because although I was sharing my honest review of an experience and being paid by the publication, I would have written a similarly positive account if the cryotherapy centre was paying me.
Have we become so skeptical that we assume all positive accounts are just forms…
Having dealt with varying degrees of depression for most of my adult life, and being the sort of person who talks openly about it, I’ve learned the importance of a list of things that “might help”. So if you’re in need of a bit of a lift, or you know someone who might need to shift their state, try one or all of these things.
Of course, sometimes depression needs professional intervention, and it’s up to each of us to know when that’s the case, but even when you’re feeling okay, it doesn’t hurt to feel a little better.
These…
